Rendering land touristifiable: (eco)tourism and land use change

چکیده
Critical research concerning ecotourism has revealed the activity’s socio-economic impacts, including low-wage employment-based dependencies for many rural communities. While these dynamics are important, a crucial aspect of industry that falls outside this conventional sort dependency is land use dynamics, specifically change, sales and entrepreneurship. We examine in Corbett Tiger Reserve, India, where promotion (eco)tourism since 1990s influenced significant changes local use. These were initially facilitated by outsiders buying setting up hotels resorts villages adjoining Reserve. Empirical reveals while initial boom waned, owning villagers now tourism enterprises on their own land, thereby diversifying from agriculture to tourism. agrarian shown material symbolic factors influence farmers’ decision-making regarding change. An studies perspective thus facilitates nuanced understanding tourism-related diversification By bringing approaches together here, we contribute both emphasising importance change attention understand how people negotiate navigate relation also geographies more broadly highlighting shapes spaces course development. draw broader processes impacts shift generational changing values protected area. Rendering touristifiable deepens villagers’ dependence market alienates them land. Ecotourism commodifies nature, show commodification extends zones per se.

Modeling Land-use and Land-cover Change
Models are used in a variety of fields, including land change science, to better understand the dynamics of systems, to develop hypotheses that can be tested empirically, and to make predictions and/or evaluate scenarios for use in assessment activities. Modeling is an important component of each of the three foci outlined in the science plan of the Land-use and -cover change (LUCC) project (Tu...
متن کاملLand cover land use mapping and change detection analysis using geographic information system and remote sensing
Land cover/land use categories are relevant components in land management. Understanding how land cover/land use change over time is necessary to assess the consequences of humans and natural stressors on the earth’s environment and resources. The aim of the study was to map and monitor the spatial and temporal change in land cover/land use for the periods of 1977, 1991 and 2016 and to predict ...
متن کاملLand Use Change Explorer:
This paper describes a tool prototype named as Land Use Change Explorer, which was developed to allow different users to generate "GKD process tracking” (discovering land use change patterns) and “GKD process steering" (understanding uncertainty in these patterns as the process unfolds). The Land Use Change Explorer was implemented based on the GeoInsignt approach, previously described in Wacho...
متن کاملPotential climate forcing of land use and land cover change
Pressure on land resources is expected to increase as global population continues to climb and the world becomes more affluent, swelling the demand for food. Changing climate may exert additional pressures on natural lands as present-day productive regions may shift, or soil quality may degrade, and the recent rise in demand for biofuels increases competition with edible crops for arable land. ...
متن کاملRemote Sensing Applications: Beyond Land-Use and Land-Cover Change
Remotely sensed (RS) imagery is increasingly being adopted in investigations and applications outside of traditional land-use land-cover change (LUCC) studies. This is due to the increased awareness by governments, NGOs and Industry that earth observation data provide important and useful spatial and temporal information that can be used to make better decisions, design policies and address pro...
